Majestic 1.5.4 Release Notes

< Majestic 1.5.3 Release Notes | Release Archive | Majestic 1.5.5 Release Notes >

This version contains the following changes:

Drafts

You can now save a post as a draft.  A draft cannot be viewed on your site.  It must be published first.

Control Panel refresh

We've made some minor improvements to the Admin CP and User CP.  The layout is cleaner and we've added a few extra options to make it easier to get in touch with us if you need help or have feedback.

Feedback form

This allows you to send comments directly to us.  We encourage you to use the Help Forum, but sometimes it may be more appropriate to use the feedback form.

Migration from WordPress

We have added a screen where you can import a WordPress database.  Please note that this is an experimental feature; your site will not be flawlessly migrated.  However, we are looking for feedback from anyone who's willing to give this a try.

At this time, the migration script will do the following:
  1. Migrate all posts.
  2. Migrate all comments and link them to the posts.
  3. Migrate all images.
  4. Create a username for every commenter.
  5. Migrate drafts.
  6. Migrate open/closed comment status.
Known issues with the migration:
  1. Comment subscriptions cannot be migrated until this feature is available in Majestic.  It will be added in an upcoming release.
  2. As we do not have a way to do private posts yet, these are migrated as drafts.
  3. Some special characters (symbols) are not migrated properly.
  4. Users who commented in WordPress with the same name but different email addresses are created as duplicate users in Majestic (we store each commenter as a user so admins can manage their users more easily).  Our expected solution is for the migration to choose the most recent email address for each user.
  5. Uploading a very large file may cause a "file too big" error.  This can be addressed by modifying a couple of PHP settings but some web hosts have a maximum file size limit that you may not be able to override.  We're happy to help with modifying the settings if you need assistance.
  6. Redirecting from WordPress URLs to Majestic URLs is not currently possible.
However, many of these issues will be overcome in future versions of the script.  We wanted to get a first version of the script in Majestic for sites who simply want to migrate posts and comments.
