Plugins and extensions

A plugin provides a very flexible way to display information stored in Injader or from other systems. Here are some things you can do with plugins:
- Find specific information in a database
- Retrieve information from other databases on your site
- Modify how the information is displayed
- Use the same plugin in multiple templates
- Import and export plugins
- Do all of the above right in your web browser
Creating a plugin is an advanced topic covered by the
Plugins Guide. If you have a specific requirement, I may be able to create a plugin for you.
If you're used to plugins in WordPress, then you might be looking for our equivalent: Extensions. These do require you to upload files via FTP to get the functionality up and running. I will be writing an Extensions Guide in the future, so if you're
proficient in PHP, SQL and HTML, you'll be able to get started with
extensions.
I'd strongly recommend using plugins if possible as they are much simpler. Also, I don't want to create an enormous repository of extensions for things where the functionality should be included within Injader itself. There are definitely some things that would be better as an extension though. The key is in balancing between what should be in the core system and what is simply too specific a feature to be anything other than an extension.
